Registered nurses often work for long hours on their feet, and work with the most difficult patients in their most difficult hours. Registered nurses can have difficult jobs, but they do so much for everyone in need of medical attention, there is no way that the medical field can survive without them. From getting your doctor’s visit started to making sure that everyone has the type of care that they need, registered nurses are the ones that we turn to for great care.
Exams
When you first get into the doctor’s office, who greets you? Most people would guess a medical assistant, and this is usually true, but when you’re in the examining room, the nurse is the one who’s first in the room, asking questions, and taking notes for the doctor. Nurses can take your vitals, vitals which are important to helping the doctor determine what’s wrong with you if you are sick! Some registered nurses will use the equipment to check your ears, nose, and throat for possible issues, and mant will take blood from you! If a doctor had to perform all of these things for each patient, no one would be able to see a doctor for years at a time! Registered Nurses are the backbone of the medical field, and are hence, invaluable.
Give Medications
When many people most need a nurse, they’re in need of treatment. Therapy is most often in the form of medicine, and medicine prescribed by a doctor may have special instructions for the administration of some medications. This is where a nurse steps in, and saves the day! Nurses are able to administer any medication, and often make the difference between an overdose and an insufficient amount of medication. Nurses can teach family and friends of an individual receiving medical care how to administer intravenous medication, from measuring dosage to injecting patients with life-saving medication.
Go-Between for Patients and Doctors
One of the most important roles that of a diplomat! Nurses are quite talented at properly and thoroughly relaying information from doctors to patients in a way that is easy to comprehend, and helpful. Registered nurses are there to take their time with patients, and are often the ones who are there for patients’ emotional needs during times of difficult diagnosis, and find themselves comforting patients and their families.
Care for Wounds
One of the most demanding duties in the role of a registered nurse is maintaining patients’ physical well-being. Some patients are bedridden, and aren’t able to leave their beds for any reason, and nurses have to be able to reach, scrub, and rinse. Bedpans must be emptied and cleaned, and severe wounds must be tended. Registered nurses are one of the most valuable assets we have, and they deserve all of the respect and admiration they receive.
